I booked this as an alternative to the Holiday Inn, which is a similar distance to the office I work from when in Beijing. I get bored of the cookie cutter hotels and this place looked much more interesting. The room (I booked the most basic type) was clean and comfortable and nicely decorated. There were bathrobes and slippers in the closet. What makes this hotel outstanding is the service. The two women on reception both spoke good English, and there was nothing that was too much trouble for them. They were incredibly helpful and always smiling.
They serve breakfast everyday, and there is a small variety of western and Chinese food. The location is close to plenty of good breakfast places if you fancy going a bit more local.
The hotel is a converted Hutong and has a covered courtyard that is heated in the winter. It is a lovely place to relax in the evening after a hard days work or sightseeing.
I will definitely stay here again next time I am working in Beijing, and look forward to bringing my wife on a future visit.
The staff are a credit to the hotel.
Michael's house is incredibly cute, nestled in a bit more residential area away from the more hustle-bustle.
The drawback is that it was about a 10 minute walk to and from the subway station, but inside the hotel was wonderful. Breakfasts were quite good and the staff were all very friendly. One even walked us to a nearby restaurant when we asked for a recommendation.
The outside street is not fancy. But the inside is comfortable and the service great! The beds are very comfotable and each bedroom has it's own modular, small but adequate private western toilet, shower and sink. The 10 guest rooms are around a cental "lobby' sitting area where breakfast is served. It's quiet. A couple of the receptionist speak English, all the staff are very kind.
Throughout a 3 week stay in Beijing, we intermittently stayed 2 weeks at Michaels House. ALL rooms have had very comfortable beds, are very clean and the service great. The standard rooms are nice, but the KIng suites offer an extra seating/couch living area, is you're here for a longer stay, they are worth it! There are a couple of the regular receptionists who speak some English and they are very helpful. All staff are kind & professional. This boutique hotel is in the grand Houtong style, with all the rooms around a central courtyard where there are comfortable couches and the breakfast buffet is served in the mornings. If you want to get away from the chaos of busy city and western life, enjoy this quiet respite. They are only a 10 minute walk to the subway, line 2. The bathrooms are small modular units but adequate western style. It's the only place we'll choose in Beijing for our future visits.
Location - 15 min. walk to subway. Nice rooms around the central courtyard where breakfast is served. Extremely nice staff that will do everything to help with your needs. Quiet and serene atmosphere.
We absolutely loved it and would definitely stay here again. The staff were phenomenal. The courtyard was a great place for us to get together in the evenings.
Great position, friendly welcoming English speaking staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Rooms well decorated, beds comfortable, just delightful. So nice to stay somewhere where you felt almost part of a family rather than a big western hotel chain. Highly recommend.
Small and interesting hotel, perfect when you have a couple of days on a business trip and are tired of the bland standard international business hotel. The street is very narrow, which makes getting in there with a taxi a bit tricky, but that was the only snag I could think of.
A beautiful, homely hotel. My taxi drivers both had trouble with the address though so I recommend carrying the hotel's number, as even with the address and business card they asked to call the hotel to ask about directions. Super comfy bed. Also if you're familiar with China you'll know this- Google maps is not accurate so that also delayed me in finding the hotel, frustrating the taxi driver...use a different app!
My room is quiet, clean, safe. I forgot to take my hand lotion with me, it would be a perfect stay if hand lotion is available in room. I am impressed with the service and staff.
Absolutely enjoyed staying at this place. The room was very comfortable and cosy. It is worth it to pay the room rate that includes breakfast. For the 6 days I was there, breakfast always included fried eggs, some kind of bacon, cereal, yogurt, fruit and toast. The variety included various Chinese foods like mantou (馒头), congee (粥),buns with meat (包子), fried rice and various other breads. You can also order dumplings, wonton and noodles. Consider it a B & B place.
The staff was very helpful and polite, including the housekeepers. The front desk staff helped us call taxis, which an extra help since we did not have local phones or local Uber accounts. The small size makes it personable. We communicated with the staff in Chinese so I'm not sure how their English is. Prior written communication with them was in English and I received prompt and clear responses.
As others have noted, the place is located in an alley and can be hard to find if the taxis do not know where it is or do not use GPS. It is about a 10 minute walk (800+ meters) to the subway stop. On the same street to the subway, Xinjiekoudajie (新街口大街), there are plenty of places to eat.
In reading the reviews before going, it was hard to find anything negative and I concur. It is old China with comfort and personality. They are serious about keeping it as a no smoking place (not just put signs up and allow them to be ignored). It will be my first choice to stay in Beijing whenever I go back.
arrived in Beijing at night and already dark. The Hotel Address is rather difficult to find but once arrived there, it turn out to be a very nice accommodation. Clean, cozy and helpful staff.
