Baubigny (Manche) Cordon dunaire de Baubigny. Il ya environ 85 000 ans (Paléolithique), le niveau de la mer est supérieur au niveau actuel et vient battre une falaise. Ensuite, pendant la période glaciaire, la la mer se retire de plusieurs centaines de mètres et laisse sur place des sédiments. Lors du réchauffement Holocène, il y a 12 000 ans, la mer remonte en repoussant les sédiments déposés. Les sédiments poussés par le vent constitueront un cordon dunaire littoral avec un marais en arrière-littoral. Les sables poussés par les vents finiront par combler le marais et par surmonter la falaise. La côte semble se stabiliser il y a 1400 ans. Ensuite, ce sont les activités humaines qui modèleront le massif dunaire : pâtures, exploitation de végétaux comme l'oyat pour la litière, etc. L'utilisation excessive des dunes, conjointement à un climat plus froid, déstabiliseront les dunes vers les 17e - 18e siècles. En 1839, le capitaine de Cholet en donne une description : « Ces dunes changent de forme à l’époque des équinoxes et, presque toujours, une pluie de sable inonde le pays lorsque arrivent les brises d’automne ou de printemps. Les habitants ont sacrifié leur propre sécurité et se sont mis à couper le milgreu (l'oyat) pour faire des brosses et des balais ». Les premières routes sont construites au début du 20e siècle. "This is a basic, budget hotel. It does exactly what is expected. The room was a good size. The beds were confortable and the bathroom perfectly functionable. It was a bit further out of town than expected, but walkable from the ferry terminaland bus station. There is a bus that goes straughts past tue door, but we made use of the hire scooters."

"I would definitely stay here again, it was such a great location to catch the ferry from Cherbourg and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We checked in quite late, around 7pm, parking and taking my dog were no problem, it was all so easy and in an incredibly impressive historical building. There is a restaurant in the hotel which we didn’t try and also quite a few other places to eat within the town. It felt very safe and quiet. "
