we stayed adjacent to Acient Akrotiri for two nights in a cave, on the water.. it was beautifully peaceful, quiet, away from the chaos of the more touristic areas.

Be careful where you walk. The path going in has this center line dug out. Not sure what the function is (drainage?) but its definitely a tripping hazard.

Off the beaten path, but I highly recommend it! Seeing this ancient buried city, you get an amazing feel for life during Minoan times.
