"You must read-up on what to expect at the queen’s hotel. It may or may not be for you. It feels like stepping back in time. The place is a little shabby in places but if you want to have that feeling of living a bit of history it delivers. It’s an excellent location and the staff are all friendly and helpful. The pool offers a break from the noise of town and just generally- bring your ear plugs! We really enjoyed our stay."

Owner recommended the rooftop restaurant for evening dinner, stunning 14 authentic Sri Lankan dishes cooked to perfection by far the best meal we have had all trip. "The pictures are deceiving. There’s no pool, spa or laundry facilities (even though the hotel profile says they have them). Bathrooms were very dirty. Holes in the walls and ceilings. Ants on the bed. No view across the lake. No handles or locks on the back door. Upstairs kitchen was loud past midnight. Workers were laughing, talking, dropping things on the floor etc, we couldn’t sleep. We had a terrible experience. Can you please give my money back?"

"Cassendra staff eere welcoming and helpful - even before I arrived. They helped me find affordable transport for a day trip and when needed were able to serve my dinner extra quickly. Wifi was touch and go but ultimately held for a few video calls. The hotel is a bit old but rooms are spacious and clean with great bathrooms. The location is know to tuktuk drivers and the mountain offers amazing views. Its also very close to the best Kandyan dancers (5 min walk) and a view point!"
