The Delaware Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"We really enjoyed this historic hotel. Be prepared for some stairs as there is no elevator and you may be out of breath if you aren't accustomed to the elevation (we came from sea level!) But it is worth it! The hotel is right in the center of town and very convenient to shopping, restaurants, the train station, the mineral belt biking trail, etc. We parked our car and then just walked (or biked) everywhere! The staff was very helpful and the restaurant was great."

"The bar is under renovations, so closed. They seemed to be doing a lot of remodeling, from mudding walls while we were there, to painting stairwells, to pounding on something or other at 6:00 pm Saturday evening. The bathroom door wouldn't close, and the toilet paper holder was loose on the wall so that the toilet paper roll would fall off. The entry door has a 1" gap underneath, and a gap where it closes so that any conversation by people walking by was easily heard. The biggest negative that set the tone was that on checkin, they informed me of a new parking system they just installed, where hotel occupants would pay $40 per night, per vehicle and an addition $5.95 processing fee per vehicle, per night. Almost $92.00 for a 2 night stay! They did comp me the parking after inquiry, but that just killed the vibe for me. Will never go back to Breck, it was just a place to see how a business cold separate you from you money. The town was nothing special to me. Ouray was much better."

"This was a very funky hotel billed as a bed and breakfast. The property is well over 100 years old and clearly has some deferred maintenance issues, but it was so cool and funky. I would go back in a heartbeat. I’m sure the staff is really good but when I showed up there, the door was locked there was nobody at the desk. Nobody responded to my ringing the bell and nobody answered the phone, so at that point as I was getting really frustrated. I looked down and saw an envelope with my name on it attached to a little welcome bear. A notice that if it were eye level on the door would’ve gone a long way to keeping me from freaking out! Anyway, inside the envelope where the keys to the front door as well as my room."
