"We don’t have a whole lot to complain about, so 4 stars is harsh, but Expedia didn’t give a 4.5 star option. It was a clean and quiet hotel where the rooms and public areas were all in good shape. (We didn’t have time to use their spa and pool.) If we were to stay in this area, I wouldn’t mind picking this hotel again. (I might prefer a different lake for water activities to avoid the freeway noise at Donner Lake, but that’s not the hotel’s fault.)
On the negative side, the young woman at the reception wasn’t exactly friendly and did not know much about how to go boating or kayaking in the Donner Lake next door. The breakfast did not have a lot of choices, but it was decent (except for the waffles). Breakfast counter area should be designed better though. All of the high demand items (fridge, toaster, coffee, pastries, jams) were all in the same narrow corner, creating a traffic jam, while three quarters of the straight side of the counter stayed wide open."
