An affordable option in Ueno area. Stayed in a japanese style room for one night. Convenient to train, food, shopping and drinking. Clean and friendly.
Traditional Japanese style room was simple and functional. Futon matresses were very comfortable. Bathroom is tiny, which is typical. The staff was friendly and helpful. The AC was cold, but things always felt very wet. Our other hotels (modern style) were not like this. Very convenient to food and shopping!
Nakagawa inn is one of a kind, its staff are very welcoming and helpful, and if you call in advance they can allow you to come in well before opening hours. I loved my stay at Nakagawa Inn, and I hope to return there again soon!

Disliked: Cleanliness
My stay here was just okay. My futon and duvet were stained yellow and there was mildew on the sink of the bathroom. Even though they were “clean”, receiving stained linens was a bit upsetting. There were many holes in the shoji paper which were patched up a bit haphazardly. The saving grace was the location- very close to everything you want to see in Akihabara. Across the street is an artisan market where you can buy unique goods. If you only eat Halal there is a great halal restaurant as well. For the price, I feel you can do better.
This was the most affordable place I've been able to find that can accommodate 4 large people in one room with tatami mats. It has it's own bathroom, closet space, and necessary amenities. The hotel was within walking distance to Okachimachi station and Akihabara so it's a bit of a hidden gem. It has a genkan at the entrance so it feels like a studio size apartment. One thing to get used to is sleeping on the futon on the floor, but it is thick enough to sleep normally. The staff can speak English really well so it'll be easy to get assistance. It's located next to a lot of restaurants so there's always something different to eat. There's also plenty of artisan stores to buy unique fashionable clothing and accessories. This is one hotel I'd recommend for a small group. The rooms are actually bigger than the picture show so there'll be plenty of room for a family.

Very good location.
But the room was really small and no window.
Just a wow! Like a traditional Japanese room, it is definitely a must try!! Did about several hotel in Tokyo, even more expensive but this one is the best!! Highly recommended!
The property is very simple but functional. Be aware that there aren’t actual beds but matresses. The hotel is nearby the subway lines so you hear the noise almost all the time except from midnight to 5 am.
Nice for a short term stay. Room is a good size for Tokyo and it can easily fit 4 people.
Its very noisy in the hotel, walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbours very clearly.
Bathroom is very small compared to other hotels in tokyo but its clean and manageable.
Good location and easy to walk.
Stayed 4 night, minimal contact with staff which we liked. Welcoming and respectful staff. Close to a metro station and many tasteful restaurants on the same street. 4/5 stars

Disliked: Amenities
Our first night in Tokyo we stayed here. We are a family of 4 with 2 adults & 2 kids (age 8 & 13).
We were lucky, we got one of the bigger rooms, which was able to store our 2 big luggage’s in the entry way. We really loved the futon on the tatami mats, it was really comfortable for us.
The AC wasn’t turned on when we arrived, which left the room with a musky smell from the humidity. To help the damp, I suggest leaving the AC on.
The bathroom is very very small, my husband hit his head on the bathroom door. Haha. It’s close to a train station so can get loud, we ran the white noise on our phone while we were sleeping and that really helped.
All in all, the location was fantastic, the faculty was clean and the staff was very accommodating and helpful.
Our stay was great. Our luggage was transferred and waiting for us when we arrived. Check in was easy. The room is exactly like shown - very basic but comfortable after a long day of exploring. The futons were very comfortable.
Great location close to stations and shopping. The staff was friendly.
Height of the bathroom door was the only issue. Otherwise if basic or traditional is what you are looking for, we recommend!
