"My room was disappointing. The en-suite was smelly and the windowless room had no functional ventilation fan. It did not help that the main room window could not be opened. Overhead lighting in the en-suite was hanging loose from the ceiling and the flooring around the (recently?) replaced sink had not been replaced and didn't fit.
The bed was OK but something in the linen caused throat irritation which prevented much sleep and the TV was so pixellated it was useless. Hot drink supplies were fine.
The restaurant was good in the evening but breakfast was chaotic with the staff seemingly having little understanding of the available options and much of the offerings probably cooked the previous day.
All in all, the experience did not accord with the 8.9 rating or the price level charged."
"We had a great stay at NW Castle, it suit us perfectly as the kids were well entertained with the games room and pool. Our room was recently renovated and this was hugely welcomed as I had been expecting a tired decor. The hotel is full of charm and that added to the unique experience. All staff were fabulous and helpful.
We will likely return for our next trip to Stranraer, thank you to the team."
"Beautiful seaside Victorian hotel! Staff were stretched thin but very friendly, dinner and breakfast were great, high ceilings in the room, stunning views out the large original windows. Some parts of the room could maybe use a deep sanitize clean, bathroom had an odd aroma. Room and hotel were well appointed otherwise. The walk down to the lifeboat station at sunset was 👌and the hike to Dunskey castle the next morning was incredible."
"It’s an old property- if you love quirky you’ll love it. If you want pristine, you won’t.
Food was fantastic for dinner and breakfast. Spent time talking to the owners who are fantastic people- including the son as chef.
If character and informal brilliance are your thing go. If not don’t.
And the views….."
"Had a lovely stay at the Waterfoot- all staff were really friendly and welcoming. Small room but clean and comfy. Ate both dinner and breakfast here and food was fantastic."
"Hotel very run down, maintenance non existent. Cobwebs hanging from ceiling above bed. Dust everywhere, unable to see out of windows so dirty. Crack in bathroom sink, bath stained and dirty. One bed was stained terrible down the side. On the up breakfast was lovely but tables very sticky so crockery sticking. Apparently this hotel was/is used for homeless people?"
