If you ever find yourself in Dublin with a sense of adventure, an appetite for historical curiosities, a few extra hours, and plenty of euros for the parking meters (😩), do make your way to St. Michan's Church, a building which has been around since being erected in 1085 by Norse Vikings. It isn't easy to find, but you will be well-rewarded if you manage it. The Crypt Keeper will show you a good time 🕍🗡💀 You can tour the grounds, the cemetery, the church itself, and even the crypts underneath if you are brave enough to visit with mummies entombed there centuries ago. Something odd about the limestone in the foundation, combined with the local climate, preserves the bodies of those long buried in the crypts, but also somehow manages to erode the wood of the coffins they were placed in. This obviously makes for a window into those entombed in a place which was inspiration for one Mr. Bram Stoker. Yes.... THAT Bram Stoker. He grew up right around the corner, and often visited family members buried among notable Irish in the crypts at St. Michan's.
