The cliff path at Seopjikoji takes in rugged ocean scenery and serene countryside, making it the ideal place for a romantic stroll any time of year.

Seopjikoji is one of Jeju Island’s most popular spots thanks to its sweeping coastal views, serene countryside and year round accessibility.

Seopjikoji translates as ‘narrow cape’. It is this narrowness, as well as the steep cliffs and the spectacular volcanic rock formations that give the spot on the east tip of the island its beauty. A well-paved cliff path is a gentle walk that can be enjoyed by travelers of all ages and abilities.

Follow signs from the car park and head towards the cliffs along the stone path. Below to your right, the picturesque Sinyang Seopjikoji beach is pounded by the ocean, while over the wooden fence to your left are wide green pastures with wild horses grazing. Beyond them, you’ll see the magnificent Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak in the distance.

The area’s beauty has not gone unnoticed by Korean film directors. Seopjikoji has been the location for many Korean films including Ginko Bed 2 and A Thousand Day Nights. A popular Korean television series, All In, is also filmed here.

Continue along the path and you will see the white shape of the lighthouse in the distance. The most spectacular views of the coast can be had from the top of the lighthouse, so it is well worth the effort of climbing the staircase to get there. Visit at low tide when the beach becomes a sculpture gallery filled with unusual rock formations. Keep an eye out for the rock at the end of the cliff known as Seondolbawi. This is said to be a prince who turned to stone after his fairy bride did not show up to their wedding.

Seopjikoji is a 90-minute drive from Jeju city. It is open all year round and is free to enter.
