Ruardean Woodside This village high in the Forest of Dean used to be a coal mining village, though most of the scars have healed there is still some evidence, for example a spoil heap can be seen to the left just below the skyline.

The Wye valley viewed from near Joy's Green From the high ground to the west of Ruardean there are superb views across the Wye valley and Herefordshire to the Welsh borders. The River Wye can be seen in the valley downstream from Kerne Bridge.

Check-in was early, which I appreciated. However, the room fell well below expectations: it had no window, a damp smell, no hot water, and felt very run-down. It also didn’t feel clean, and there were no hooks in the bathroom for towels. Overall, I would not recommend the Stables.

The apartment was very clean and tidy, and of a very large size which gave it a very homely feel. the kitchen had everything you could need for your stay. Very happy with the parking and location close to Gloucester Quay for shops/bars/restaurants.
