If you want a "Rio Lagartos View" try getting to the roof of Yuum Ha Boutique Hotel, you will get a 360 degree view of the place, get there before sunrise and the light will be great during sunrise, take some Panos and take your long lens with you to shoot the locals (fishermen) and the local fauna, if you are lucky you can even catch the flamingos taking off. tip: sunset is also great... The famous pink lakes of Mexico, Rio Lagartos. A magical sight! Pink waters and blue sky, It was like sunset reversed; a feast for eyes! There are plenty of colorful salt lakes near Las Coloradas/Rio Lagartos in the Yucatan peninsula. It is just 2 hours drive away from Chichén Itzá and around 3 hours from Cancun. Public transport is scarce in this part of Mexico. We took a rental car and it was an easy and comfortable journey for us :) Once we reached Las Coloradas, we were welcomed by giant white salt mountains. After driving around the salt mountains for some time, we finally found someone local who took us to this beautiful private salt lake. #nature
no flamingos for us but a lot of chilling time

Wonderfully friendly and helpful staff. The hotel was clean and tidy and our room was very large. The pool and garden are kept tidy and the boardwalk through the mangrove to the edge of the lagoon was great. Fabulous place to sit and watch the flamingos and other birds on the lagoon.

We stayed here to visit Las Coloradas. we thought that we needed a whole day to visit the area. We didn't take any tour because fishermen wanted double than what we paid for our tour on Lake Bacalar. No wonder there are very few tourists in the area.

Best way to book a boat tour is to make arrangements late afternoon before along the Malecon. 1 captain offered me the tour for 800 pesos. Wife had already arranged a tour with another boat for 1200 pesos
