1856 US Gov't decided to use camels to move freight and people across the American Southwest... Hadji Ali (affectionately called Hi Jolly) a Syrian caretaker was hired for the job. This is the monument in Quartzsite AZ in memory of Hi Jolly. The Civil War began and the project was abandoned. The camels were set free to wander the Arizona desert
The sunsets in the desert are some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen.
"Quartzsite, Arizona, barely 18 miles east of the Colorado river, on I-10, may be the RV boondocking capital of the world." Indeed a strange little town, there is a half naked piano player who plays at a bookstore here, and most people only pause for refreshments in the middle of the desert. It seems like the only other people who live there are in trailers camped out in the ample desert space. #whiskeysister
