「The place was falling apart the roof was leaking and the whole place smells, the rooms were basic but the beds were like sleeping on a lump of stone even immigrants would avoid this place like the plague.」

「It’s the perfect stay to stop just off the M6 when driving from Scotland to England. It’s a beautifully decorated pub, with lovely staff and excellent breakfast and dinner. This time our ferry was cancelled from Mull and so we had to change the booking at the last moment. They were understanding and there was no problem rolling over the booking until we could get off the island. We will be forever loyal to this wonderful stop just south of Penrith. 」

Breakfast was nice but expected a little more to warrant the price. Beautiful views from the hotel and plenty walks from the hotel as a starting point. Dog friendly too 」

「I had a wonderful stay at Powter Howe, a real treat. The room and bathroom were immaculately cleaned and well kept and the host is a gem who cooks the best breakfast which includes lovely free range eggs from her own hens. Waking up in the morning to the view over a beautiful garden beyond the lake to Skiddaw was an extra treat as each morning there was a new ever changing Lake District vista. I'll definitely be back! 」

「Our room, on the first floor, was excellent with lovely views. The food was of a high quality and the service was very good except on one of our three evenings when we were forgotten about and it took at least three complaints to get our meal started. On this occasion we were in the restaurant for about two hours and it took 45 minutes before we got our starter. This was a shame because otherwise everything was perfect.」

「Breakfast was lovely with plenty of choice. All staff were very friendly making for a relaxing stay. Evening meal was was also very nice ( I had the pie both nights, highly recommended) wine a bit on pricy side but I enjoyed it all the same!」

「The overall status of the hotel is nice, we arrived quite later at 1:00am, but the housekeeping starts knocking doors from 9:30 all the way to 10:40 (about 4 times) to ask people to check out... they really did what their boss told...」
