Eastern And Oriental Hotel

"Staff were welcoming and helpful. Standout lady was Kha Mun, efficient and remembered details about us ( hopefully because we were nice! ), fun and so professional. Room in the heritage wing was great, spacious and old style which we prefer to modern rooms which lack character. Bottled water provided daily, complimentary mini bar and wine on arrival. Loved the daily offerings of canapés and a drink between 6pm and 7pm. Such lovely tasty nibbles and we looked forward to it each day. Pool was quiet and well maintained with comfortable sun loungers and iced water on offer. Breakfast was a gentle start to the day, no mobile phone conversations allowed which was fab as some people just talk so loudly and interrupt the ambience. Lovely coffee. Attentive staff. Exemplary. A great hotel."

"Very nice room and the staff were helpful as we had some issues with our room cards, they were very kind. The hotel is very clean and tidy, breakfast and dinners are a little pricey, and very good location when trying to explore Georgetown, nothing is super far away. Overall great hotel, definitely would book again."

"My wife and I stayed here for 7 nights. We liked this hotel very much. The staff were excellent. We had a spacious suite on the 11th floor. The pool was nice ( nicer without the pop music ). It was a nice place to come for relaxation. Only negative was the beach . We want to come back to this Doubletree again anyway because the staff was so welcoming , nice room, pool, and good price. Thank you! "

"The hotel is over priced for what is provided and comparable hotels of better quality are available in the area for a fraction of the room rate charged at this hotel. In fact, there are two multi story hotels right next door where you can get a double room and breakfast for less than $80.00, whereas this hotel charges $250/night. f one wants to experience the hotel, just take the guided visit, but stay at another hotel. The breakfast is pitiful, and barely any selection and if ordering from the menu on the table, the server removes the menu immediately after you make your order to prevent you from requesting other items from the menu even though the hotel offers a full breakfast in the room rate. The choices and quantities on the breakfast buffet are so poor that guests just glance at the offering and turn around and go outside the hotel to find breakfast. There is essentially no hotel room service, bath towels are not changed, minimal in room coffee and tea choices and quantities are limited, and room features are quite bare. Room lighting is very poor and the general room atmosphere is dark and cold. We have stayed at far better and higher quality hotels in Penang at a comparable room rate but after experiencing the Cheong Fatt Tze Blue Mansion we would not recommend it to anyone and we regret having spent so much to get so little. "
