Clayton Hotel Cardiff

4/10 Poor

" Unfortunately, this is not a positive review. The hotel is in a great location, conveniently close to the train station and the historic centre, with easy access to everything Cardiff has to offer. The reception area is modern and welcoming. However, while the room was very spacious and initially seemed promising, several issues quickly became apparent. I had booked a city view, but instead was given a view of an internal wall. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable, with springs digging into my back, making it difficult to sleep. The towels were stained (although they were replaced upon request), and the shower gel dispenser was empty. Overall, the experience did not meet expectations. "

"First time I’ve never really been impressed with the staff. On arrival they didn’t even acknowledge our presence - both tapping away on their computers - until one finally acknowledged us and said the other one would check us in. After another while, she finally just said “surname”!! No smile, no greeting. Nothing. Apart from that, great hotel as always. Close to great restaurants and walking distance of town. "

"We stayed Easter Sunday night on a bed & breakfast deal. Our room was on the Tiger Bay Floor (top floor) Room was a super king bed, very comfy, fabulous walk in shower with lovely fluffy towels and nice toiletries. Small balcony with fab views towards Penarth and over looking the wetlands. Room also had coffee / tea / fridge complimentary water and Welsh Cakes. In room safe and hanging wardrobe and drawers We also had robes and slippers which were excellent for going to the spa. Breakfast was excellent, albeit busy we had a great table overlooking the Bay. Nothing was too much trouble for the excellent staff in all departments. Wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. "

"Lovely hotel beautifully presented. Spa was a disappointment as couldn’t use the outdoor section and no seating area remained at time of use. Only access the pool which was cold and could simply stand in the water. Left after 15 minutes. Visited the bar as the restraint is closed on Tuesdays. Very slow service. Went through the entirety of the dinner service without a drink and food was not presented hot. Eventually received our drinks after a number of follow ups in Tim to take to the room. Clearly a staffing issue. Really blighted the evening which was to celebrate my partners birthday. Was so looking forward to our visit but unfortunately was left bitterly disappointed. "
