Towards Lambden's Farm The farm has a belt of poplars strangely on the north-east side, so they do not act as a windbreak. Sheep pasture on the slope here, arable land on the flat beyond.

Aldermaston Wharf This is the original wharf (off to the right) on the Kennet navigation, now the Kennet and Avon canal, that served the village of Aldermaston, two miles to the south. Thus a small community grew up here in its own right. The lock was originally a turf-sided lock, like all of them on the Kennet navigation between Reading and Newbury. It was rebuilt in 1984 during the restoration of the canal. The flats have been built during the last few years on the site of the former Sterling Cables works. Various canoeists are seen practising for the Devizes to Westminster canoe race, that takes place over the Easter weekend. The swans ignore all the activity and go about their business.

Room was clean and tidy, plenty of space. Towels, toiletries are provided. The room also has a kettle, tea, coffee, and a smart TV which you can cast to. The staff are helpful and friendly. There is plenty of lounge space and activities on the ground floor. Lovely stay!

Beenham: A Panoramic View of Farmland north of Shrub Wood. This view is from the graveyard at the Church looking over towards Beenham hill. It is situated in the south western section of the grid square. The photograph was taken in switchy light conditions which made stitching the photo together rather tricky.
