Wonderful hotel that was clean and had a spacious room with a view of the ocean where we were able to open the window and listen to the waves all night. Friendly and helpful staff who recommended a great dining option. This was one of our favorite hotels we stayed at on our 11 day journey through Europe.

This is a magical gem

Hotel Istra - is simply magic. RIGHT on the water (unlike most of the other hotels). Everyone who worked at the hotel was incredibly friendly, kind and helpful. The dinner buffet had lots of options for everybody and the beets were particularly incredible. We loved it here so much we are going to stay another night on our way back to Dubrovnik.

We really liked the location of the hotel. Opatija is such a beautiful village and you can go into the centre directly via the sea promenade. Also the beach is very beautiful, but keep in mind that it costs 25€ (for 1 umbrella and two sun beds). The parking situation is horrible. You need to pay at least 30€ a day in a garage (5 minutes walk) or 34€ on the street (directly in front of the hotel). We didn't like the dinner buffet. There were some dishes that were good, but in general it was more like a cantine (greasy food). The plates were not cleaned very well unfortunately. The breakfast was okay. The bar and it's view is more than beautiful!

The restaurant bar at the main entrance is quiet and has good food for a reasonable price...not to mention a wonderful view of the bay and friendly staff. The breakfast buffet was good. What I did not like -> There were long women's hairs everywhere in the room, which wasn't properly vacuumed. The cleaning staff also did not refill the bath soap dispenser after the first night, so we basically had no soap the next two days. We had to use our own soap which we bought at the supermarket. Expedia shows pictures of bedrooms with a sea view, but we had a view towards the street, and there were music concerts every night at the property next door, so it was loud until midnight. The hotel air conditioner is not working well. The room was rather warm and humid.

On the beach

The hotel has been renovated a few years ago. The rooms are simple with few amenities (so you’ll need bring your own kettle if you want the occasional tea) but reasonably spacious (though with a rather bland colour scheme). Had a sea facing room on the 3rd floor with a small balcony that was nice. Late-night noise from various parties, nightclubs etc, from along the seafront was sadly a persistent issue (but not the fault of the hotel) so bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. Staff friendly and helpful. Lobby bar and balcony nice, with a great view, Restaurant and the food/buffet was fine, but the menu was rather repetitive. For dinner, the inclusive beer was great, but the red/white wine could have been better. The indoor pool is small, but given the limited space in the hotel ok. No onsite parking (in the road its Euro 19 a day if you can find a spot) but the front desk helped us to get parking in their sister hotel next door (for Euro16). Maya, the massage lady, was excellent, It is an easy walk along the coastal path to other bars/restaurants. WiFi was ok, but very spotty reception in the restaurant. Overall an enjoyable stay, in a central location of Opatija. Would definitely stay in the Istra again.

Great staff. Aesthetics of the hotel good. Poor amenities though - aircon didn’t work properly, and the best (despite being a good quality mattress originally) had clear ‘sink holes’ within. Warm nights made our stay uncomfortable. Hotel also charges €25 for 2 sun beds and an umbrella which is cheeky when they don’t get the basics right

Unterkunft insgesamt ganz nett. Dennoch bisschen unverständlich warum man als Hotelgast zusätzlich für die Liegen (12 Euro pro Liege) bezahlen muss. Auch steht bei der Buchung das Parkplätze für 19,90€ pro Tag verfügbar sind. Am Ende waren es 34€ pro Tag mit keinen Alternativen.
