Staff were very nice and helpful. Great location and had a room with a view. Shower did not drain at all. Breakfast buffet was good to get the morning started. Overall an average hotel that had parts being renovated. Definitely had the old feeling vibe and very dated.

There was a nice selection at breakfast. The hotel is in a very convenient location. The staff, especially Ki, was helpful for information about hiking, sites, shopping, and restaurants. Unfortunately the bed was very hard, but in good condition.

We only stayed one night. The location is great, right on the water. Very beautiful views. The hotel is old and it shows. The room is very basic, no amenities to mention. The floors seemed unstable and uneven. Not worth the money. Parking comes at a price of GBP 10 per night.

Nice property , clean and well maintained. Easy and swift check in. The advertising of the hotel focused a lot on the gym , Golf, Spa and swimming pool facilities, and I was a little annoyed to find out on reading the small print ( after we had booked) that there was a £15 per person charge to use the pool. We felt that this should be pointed out more prominently as the pool and Spa was one of the main reasons for booking.

Very run down. Poorly maintained structure. Evidence of water leaks in the bedroom and bathroom which had a strong smell of damp and long term cigarette smoke. One Bedroom window was nailed closed, no ventilation and although electric fans were provided, they only circulated warm air. Doors banging throughout the night disrupting sleep. Shower was a drip hose. Altogether a very bad experience which I would not recommend. This hotel is by far the most rundown place that we have ever stayed. Reception staff were pleasant on booking in.

The Great Western Hotel is now returning to "great"in every way. Really enjoyed my recent stay. You will not find a better location than this centre piece of Oban bay. Good choice of food and drink served in a nice friendly atmosphere. The staff are also a real asset of this hotel and it is plain to see that the ownership and management are now determined to continuously improve and look after this great hotel. I look forward to returning to The Great Western Hotel as soon as I can.

Parking can be a problem, option to book a space. Breakfast was good but if you have a dog with you like we had, you have to go back and forth from the main breakfast room to the bar area even though it is a better view.

The hotel was having refurbishment in the dining room, but during my stay there was no noise, and I was able to park in the main car park, and although I was going to pay the parking charges, when the staff realised I had a blue badge, they mwentioned that parking was free. Due to the dining room being closed residents were eating at the bar, and the staff were very helpful, and the food was good. My room was excellent, with a great view of the bay
