We used the place as a crashpad for the marina and our charter - the bed and shower was great. Place has a 'charm' to it but for price and location to central Newport on a holiday week was ideal.

My wife and I got an upgrade to help celebrate our anniversary. The inn keeper was extremely pleasant and could not do enough for us. The family atmosphere breakfast was just an added bonus. We will be going back. 10 out of 10.

The girl at check-in was very rude. She directed us to a dining room to sit for 15 minutes before attending to us. No drink offered or anything after traveling all day. Her answers to our questions were short and acted like she just didn't want to be bothered. She directed us to 2 different rooms and when I acted confused by her directions, she rolled her eyes and said that she would just show us the way. It was a very uncomfortable experience. When we did get to our room, there was no soap and dirty in areas. The bathroom sink was soooo small but the MAIN complaint was that the walls were so thin that we were kept awake ALL night, NO SLEEP AT ALL AT THIS INN! I would never recommend this place, stay absolutely anywhere else! A man approached us in the morning (could have been the owner but never identified himself) and asked how our stay was. When my husband told him about our experience, he just dismissed the feedback. We stayed at 6 Inns on this trip and the Melville House was the worst!

The staff were so pleasant to talk to and since my wife and I were not able to climb stairs, we were upgraded to a first floor room. The breakfast served every day was so delicious and ready when we were. Everything we needed was taken care of by wonderful people. Also all the attractions are within walking distance since the hotel is located downtown. I highly recommend the Melville House and we will be staying there again.
