Admire luxury cars, explore historic sites, enjoy a massage overlooking the city or shop for some of Japan’s biggest brands in this bustling metropolis.

Japan’s fourth-largest city, Nagoya, is sophisticated and modern, yet steeped in history. Today, the city is home to almost 3 million residents and attracts visitors for its shopping, luxury hotels and fascinating historical sites.

Visit Nagoya Castle to see the historic heart of the city. Damaged by fire during World War II, the castle has been meticulously restored and is one of the city’s most popular attractions.

Visit Nagoya in spring and be met by bursts of color as cherry blossoms begin to bloom. Bring a picnic to one of Nagoya’s parks and join in the traditional Japanese pastime of hanami, where crowds gather to enjoy the day beneath the flowers. Heiwa Park is one of the most famous places for hanami.

The modern center of Nagoya resides above Nagoya Station, the city’s main train station and the largest railroad complex in the world. The JR Central Towers above the station are home to some of the best shopping in town, as well as luxury hotels and two viewing decks, complete with bars and day spa facilities.

Enjoy a day in the outskirts of Nagoya. Catch the train to the nearby Toyota Automobile Museum to see classic car models from one of the biggest manufacturers in Japan, as well as luxury European and American cars.

Pay your respects at one of the most sacred sites in Japan, the Atsuta Shrine, a 15-minute train ride from Nagoya Station. Surrounded by woodland, this is a great place to unwind after a day in the city.

Sample Nagoya’s famous cuisine and try a plate of hitsumabushi (grilled eel). Served in a wooden bowl with broth and rice, the dish is an authentic dining experience.

Nagoya is located in central Japan. Fly into Nagoya International Airport or arrive by high-speed train, which takes 35 minutes from Kyoto or 1 hour 20 minutes from Tokyo. When you step out Nagoya Station, you’ll be in the city center, right beneath JR Central Towers.

I forgot the name of this restaurant but it is next to the Nagoya JR station's huge departmental store's top few floors.

The sushi here is one of the best I have had and also with the actual thing looking exactly like its replica outside the restaurant! Except fresher, bigger and more #delicious!

Great little city. Quieter and slower that Tokyo but over the festive period and how busy everything is, Nagoya was a welcomed pause.

Different from Tokyo and Kyoto. Struggling for sightseeing business but deep in unification process in Japanese history and her economic growth.
