Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Beautifully restored hotel, with lots of character. Our room was well appointed. Staff were very welcoming, although appeared a little ‘stretched’ at times. Food and wine was very good and the dining room very atmospheric. My only complaint, despite stating mobility issues, access to our room was slightly difficult, although I accept this is probably unavoidable due to the nature of the building.

The hotel and staff were great my reason for three stars is that I had the roast sirloin meal and it was cold. I told the waitress and they offered me a free hot drink. Considering I had bought a bottle of wine (£30) I wasn’t likely to want a hot drink however they did remove the service charge. Breakfast the next morning was brilliant.

Perfect stay

I had a wonderful stay at the Talbot. It was excellent value for money and the room was fantastic. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant were comfortable and had a great selection. I will absolutely be staying again.

The food and staff are absolutely wonderful. The room was beautiful with a canopy bed and a sitting area which was a welcoming area to relax after a day of sightseeing. It's also very well positioned for day adventures to the coast and York. The management team were also very visible for information and they even arranged my laundry. I would like to mention the food. The kitchen staff did a wonderful job as did the wait staff and housekeeping. Thanks for making our trip memorable. John and Agnes room 16. The best room.

In general the food was good but I found the fish and chips option very greasy on the Sunday roast was lovely. The staff were all very attentive and friendly especially our waitress Reanna? (a short girl with glasses).
