We would stay at Sokmisay Guest House when in Luang Prabang. It is clean and well-run. Always someone “minding the store.” We felt secure at all times. It is quiet environment while conveniently located within easy walking distance to the center of the city and the river. The only downsides were that it is one of 3 places by the same name and not easily found by address, and the internet could be weak during certain parts of the day.
Normally I don't write reviews as most accommodation meets expectations and beyond, however it is very important to let the general public know about the horid conditions of this guest house. We booked a family room of five and when we got to the room there were only three small beds. The room was filthy with cracked windows allowing mosquitoes to enter the room through holes in the glass with rubbish also under the beds. you could not climb up the steep stairs - we had bags / it was difficult and dangerous to get up the stairs - so steep. You had to take off your shoes as you enter the building however the floor was filthy. Avoid this place. We had 2 nights booked and left after the first night. We were so very happy to leave. It's run by a Japanese lady and she was not friendly. My wife and I left traumatised and our 3 kids were very upset. It was the worst place we have ever stayed in as a family.
