Slovenia is full of remarkable places to visit. A few hours northeast of Ljubljana, the capital, lies a region of alpine valleys that will take your breath away. I took this photo shortly after sunrise on the ridge between two of those valleys.

Having your own set of wheels certainly makes getting around this area a lot easier. For accommodation I'd recommend Luce, a small town a stone's throw away from the action, where there are a few options.

The trails can be hard to locate and very slippery when covered with snow so tread carefully or, preferably, wait until it disappears.

"Thank you for a great stay. The rooms are spotless and beds very comfortable. Staff are lovely and went out of their way to help - thank you! The hotel is very quiet in rooms, we heard no noise between the rooms. Parking is 10 euros but easy and straight outside the hotel. The breakfast was good. Thr slight issue was hot rooms with ineffective air conditioning. We asked for a fan but the hotel did not have one, so we simply brought one and ot solved the issue. Would definitely recommend this hotel."
