Took my kayak down to the Kentucky river and paddled up Dix river. It's perfect for seeing Kentucky river's old locks, bridges, and stone cliffs.
Dix River meanders it's way from the Kentucky River to Lake Herrington. Tall limestone cliffs stand just off the bank on both sides. I really don't think Kentucky gets enough love for it's scenery. I didn't know Kentucky had cliffs like this before moving here.
Halfway through a 3 km loop at Tom Dorman SNP you can take an offshoot down to the sandy banks and be rewarded with views from the belly of the Kentucky River Palisades. The exposed rock is beautiful and it's old. REALLY old. Half a billion years old. I'm still trying to let that number sink in. #paleozoicgeology The walk was short, hilly, and slippery if you have knee problems begin the loop on the east side of the parking lot your joints will thank you once you make it to the stairs.
