Emerald Lake Lodge

Emerald Lake Lodge

10/10 Excellent
"The picture of the balcony of the cabin was our exact room and the view is incredible. The rooms were lodge like and cozy, beds comfortable. This is not luxury 5 star, but the VIEWS are luxury 5 star. I would stay here over Lake Louise Fairmont anytime. There are crowds here to be sure, starting around 9:00, so head out on the Emerald Lake Trail by 8 and it will be a peaceful, easy hike. Go counter clockwise to start with the harder terrain first (tree roots the main issue) but this may be my favorite hike ever. Not having internet forced you to unplug, bring a book or download entertainment before you arrive. Internet can be found at the lodge to catch up with some free morning coffee. You can get the dining room menu in the lounge plus other items, so eating at the lounge is just fine. The food at dinner was excellent. Breakfast not as good; no cooking in your room except nescafé machines, but the buffet was quite average. There is a window for sandwiches by the lake that were pretty good. Might want to bring your own pastries, fruit or trail bars to get through as no other options until lunch. We drove 30 minutes to Takakaw falls, totally worth it! Bring those sandwiches. Also drove 30 minutes the other way to Wildwater rafting for some fun (and chilly) white water rafting. Not sure there is enough to do beyond 2 nights unless a good book and staring at the most beautiful lake in the world sustains you, and now that I write that, it’s all I want to do. Excellent!"

Castle Mountain Chalets

Castle Mountain Chalets

8/10 Good
"Everything is perfectly presented. Staff are super nice. Kitchen is well equipped and more than we needed for. Wish the weather is cold enough for using fireplace, which is well stocked and ready to fire. Had an urge to lighten the fire but not. The only downside is the the frequent train whistle during the night, which has nothing to do with the lodge other than the location. We enjoyed the view from the back window when trains passed up and down the mountain. The night trains however made the interruption of sleep, 1 am; 2:30 am, 4 and 5:30 am. Boy it was Ok for two nights while I was tired and the next three nights? It became a nuisance"
