The Carrier Dome, home for Syracuse University’s outstanding sports program, is nicknamed the “Loud House.” Whether it’s the fervor of students supporting their classmates, the design of the stadium’s domed roof or the history of games played within these walls, the Carrier Dome always buzzes with energy and cheers. Since opening in 1980 as the largest domed stadium of any U.S. college, it has seen the world’s highest college basketball attendance and hosted countless football and lacrosse games and world-famous performers. On a game night, stroll around the campus to appreciate the pre-game atmosphere before entering the Dome. Walk to your seat, peering down at the court or the Ernie Davis Legends Field, named for the Syracuse alumnus who was the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.
Settle onto the bleachers with thousands of fans, all dressed in orange. Purchase water or an ice cold beer, because the enthusiasm of the Orangemen’s supporters will heat up the dome before the game is over. Sing along to Down the Field, the school’s fight song since 1914. Watch instant replays on the big screens and let yourself get carried away by the sounds and sights.
Visit concession booths for classic stadium snacks, including Central New York’s Hofmann hot dogs, a staple of Syracuse sports fans’ diets. Look at signed pictures of people who have played or performed in the Dome, from Carmelo Anthony to Paul McCartney.
The Carrier Dome is located on the campus of Syracuse University, a 20-minute drive from the airport. A bus service is available, connecting Armory Square to the university campus. Street parking is available on side streets several blocks away but parking can be hard to find on event nights. For certain large events, park in a shuttle lot for a flat fee.
