Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Amenities
The owners bought the hotel 6 weeks ago so it needed some improvements. Their problem they could not get enough staff. It is has a character of its own that is good. We had to wait for our room because of the staff situation. It is in a good location right off of I-35. Subways, Mcdonalds and a gas station is right there. The small town of Moose Lake is about 3 miles away.

Liked: Staff & service
This is a review only of the staff, as we had to cancel our booking due to a change in travel plans. I wanted to leave a review because they were so helpful and kind - they went above and beyond getting things straightened out for us.
So, two thumbs up for excellent staff and customer service! I would definitely stay here in the future. I hope I can give a more comprehensive review soon.
The hotel was very welcoming with the moose and wooded theme. The front desk employees were very nice and helpful. The only times we needed their assistance was when it came to housekeeping. When we checked into out room, we found the vacuum still in out room plugged in, not a big deal. Later however, we found dog hair all over the bed sheets and blankets. We also had no toilet paper in our room at all, and only had 1 towel. Thr front staff however we very helpful and was able to get us new sheets so we could re make the bed. They also got us more towels for out 2 night stay. Overall, hotel was nice but housekeeping was very poor.
This place is pretty run down. The continental breakfast was abysmal. It consisted of stale toast, cereal, a cooler with packaged hard boiled eggs. No drink options. Oatmeal packets with no hot water in sight. The person at the front desk told us the pool has been closed for 7 years. The room was clean. The walls had patches of paint where they had done repairs. The shower made a high pitched screeching when we used hot water. The sheets slipped off the corners of the bed. The microwave was on the table so there was no space for eating. There was no mini fridge. The fire alarm was missing but wires where sticking out of the wall where it used to be. It is so close to Moose Lake State Park which is nice. The town is super cute.
New owners just took over the hotel, so several things that weren't taken care of, I easily overlooked. For example, the pool was not open, but I found out that it hadn't been open for 7 years! The staff, however, was friendly and competent. My room was very clean and the a/c was wonderful! I have a feeling that with new ownership this hotel will do very well and I will be back again!
Room was okay, no fridge or internet. Wanted to log into our Netflix for the football game. Not an option.
The door outside is not security controlled or locked.
We got the grand Jaccousi suite and the room was very small. The tv didn’t work, the pool was drained , the tub was dirty and there were very large spiders crawling around our room, we notified the staff of spiders and they told us yea they found some fishing spiders in other tub rooms also. They never asked us if we wanted to switch rooms or offered to look for other spiders . This was not a good experience we got very little sleep in the room due to arachnophobia and spiders the size of 50 cent pieces crawling on our walls!!
Upon our arrival, 2 1/2 hours after check-in time, no one was at the desk and the sign said to pick up the phone and dial zero. The phone was not available. When staff finally came out we were told housekeeping was still working and they’d give us a different room and then put the person assigned to that room to our original one. Seemed fine, even tho that implied they were all booked up. Because of that implication we didn’t bother to complain about our room; however, it should not have been given to anyone. The hvac unit was exposed and incredibly dusty. And no matter what temperature we set it at it blew only cold air (we chose to leave it off once we discovered that). There were 8 pillows available (2 beds) and all should have been replaced - they were old and lumpy - we managed to find 2 that were just ok. The toilet had not been cleaned, the vent fan in the bathroom was extremely dusty, and there were beard hair trimmings from a previous guest on the counter around the sink. We were unable to tell any staff about this as no one was around when we checked out. At one point in the early evening we went to the lobby space to get away from the dark and dreary room. Staff was never at the front desk, but there was plenty of loud talking among staff persons from a second floor room with door open to hallway overlooking lobby, making concentration difficult. Apparently this hotel has been both a Days Inn and an Americaninn - perhaps franchiser cancelled them?
