The tiny fishing village of Henningsvær spreads across several islands on Austvågøya’s southern coast. It was accessible to the rest of the Lofoten archipelago only by boat until the early 1980s, sparing the community from modern development through the 20th century. On the island of Heimøya, see the modern A-frame design of Henningsvær Church, which replaced an earlier chapel built in 1852.
Access Henningsvær via bridges linking the fishing village to the southern tip of Austvågøya. The nearest airport is in Svolvær, about a 40-minute drive away.
