Loved the location as it was close to the train. The room was so small for 3 people. The pull- out couch was like sleeping on a rock. The shower stall seriously needs a door or curtain. Water was everywhere and we had to use our towels to keep from slipping on the wet floor. TV should at least have 3-5 choices of English-language channels.

Speedy check in, the room was perfectly clean and ready for us. It had a separate shower room and a toilet - perfect when you have four people in one room! Hotel location is two minutes from Bamberg U3 and S Bahn. There is a great cafe for breakfast nearby and a Rewe

Check-in and out efficient. Situated very close to station. Railway was right outside my window and I could hear the train during the night, but it was no louder than my iPhone buzzing. Breakfast was excellent. Only minus was the room service knocking at 9 am to confirm I was checking out. Made me feel rushed.

Good place in perfect location

Solid place. Location is perfect, very close to Barmbek, which is an extremely useful station for Underground and S-Bahn (city train) between airport and city center. It connects very well to most of Hamburg. There are many food and shopping possibilities around. It's not exactly a classy neighbourhood but it's OK and safe as far as I know. Room and breakfast are good for the price. Staff were friendly and helpful. Storage space and breakfast options are somewhat limited but OK at this level. Wifi had some hiccups. Unfortunately the air conditioning doesn't allow you to change the temperature, which I found too warm.

big typical Ibis hotel, very close to the S1-bahn and stadion Barmbek, good correspondance to the central Station and the airport. Also U-bahn there. Hotel has a nice bar/restaurant, reception 24/7, and the rooms are nice with good beds. The windows can be opened, but my room had the S1-train so close that the sound was terrible, ok with closed Windows. No fridge or water heter. Breakfast ok, but very expensive, 18 Euro extra. Some nice restaurants, bars and cafes in the neighbourhood. I can recommend the pipular turkish NAAN. Without the trains it is a quiet district, not far from a big park. Barmbek is not the place to visit as a tourist i Hamburg though, but a good central stopover, 15 minutes from both airport/Flughafen and the central Station (hauptbahnhof)

Comfortable rooms - issues with airconditioning

The ibis Styles Barmbek is located across the road from the Barmbek station and a 5 minute walk to the local shopping centre. The rooms are of a good size however the airconditioning system is inadequate to cool the rooms. The first room we were allocated was at the back overlooking the railway line and was very hot due to the airconditioner not cooling the room. Spoke to front desk who offered either a key to open the window overlooking the railway line or some form of evaporative cooler. We declined and moved to a room at the front of the hotel that was a bit cooler. Overall this room's airconditioner was no better being unable to maintain a steady temperature. Clearly this hotel was not designed to cope with warmer days and encouraging guests to open windows exacerbates the problem by putting the system out of balance. Rooms at the front are much quieter than the rooms at the back.

I stayed here for 8 nights as a single person in a double room at the end of May / beginning of June. First the Good: Everything new, modern, and clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower had great water pressure. Coffee, tea, and water were available in the restaurant from 6 am to 10 pm for free. The not so good: Small room, no closet for clothes and even the wardrobe-like installation didn't come with any hooks or drawers. There was no coffee maker, or even an electric water kettle to make coffee or tea in the room. The safe was so small that it only could hold my passport, but nothing bigger - so don't think it would hold your tablet or laptop, which nowadays nearly everyone has with them. And the so called air condition was not very efficient. I had to let it run full power for the whole day in order to be able to sleep at a reasonable temperature. What a waste in energy. Summary: This may be a good accommodation for 1 or two days, for a single person from late fall to early spring. For couples and/or longer stays and / or during the summer time I cannot recommend this hotel.
