Staff were amazing rooms and facilities were clean tidy and well kept. Top of this the location was amazing and the food tokens and meals they provided with equally so.
Nice place to stay and staff were great. Checked in at 9 PM and was smooth. the rooms were kept clean and every bed has a light so that you wont disturb your roommates.
Kitchen and other amenities are good. Bathrooms needs a bit of work as the water gets stagnated. This can cause a bit of inconvenience.
Overall great place to stay and i would love to go back next time here.
The Maze was one of the best hostels i've ever stayed at. My roommates for super nice, the room was spotless. There is an excellent restaurant downstairs. Two block walk to the beach. Three blocks to the bus stop and easy transport to the airport.
I wasn't crazy about the unisex showers, but it was workable. Would definitely stay there again!
No free meal coz checked at 9pm and no towel given.

1. Nobody ever mentioned, including order page, emails from expedia, etc. that passport is required for check-in. Passport is a MUST! 2. People chatting and flirting during midnight till 2AM, loud and noisy.
I didn’t Stay there!!! Reception refused Me to Stay… Due I didn’t have a Passport. I have been not notified or required a Passport before My Booking and before I Supposed to Stay there on that night. Even though I had my Drivers License with Me. They Refused Drivers License. I come all the Way to Gold Coast from Sydney for “Nothing” This has forced Me to Stay Over night on the Street with Other Homeless People. Also… there was “No Manager on Duty” (to it Fix up) Plus… in Fact I had Paid the Accommodation… they Refused the Refund. I contacted Hotel… to sort out the Issues … have to wait 72 hours, and I am still waiting to Hear from them. Manager seemed to be Slack there!!!
Maze Backpackers Gold Coast is a newly refurbished and well-managed hostel offering a high standard of security. Guests are provided with access cards for secure entry to their rooms and each floor. Conveniently located directly opposite Coles Supermarket—which is open until 10 pm—and within walking distance of a vibrant dining and entertainment precinct, the hostel sits above the Clock Hotel pub, known for its $10 jugs on Thursday nights.
A standout feature is the complimentary nightly dinner. Each guest receives a dinner voucher daily, redeemable at the Clock Hotel pub on the ground floor between 5 pm and 9 pm. Meals are freshly prepared by qualified chefs, with strict adherence to hygiene and food safety standards. This arrangement offers a more professional and hygienic alternative to nearby hostels such as Tequila Sunrise, where free dinners are prepared in bulk, hours in advance, at the one and only kitchen facilities available for guests.
Maze Backpackers spans four levels—from Level 2 to Level 5—offering a mix of private and communal spaces ideal for both relaxation and socializing. Each floor is equipped with toilets and showers, with a well-balanced ratio of facilities to guests. If the amenities on your floor are occupied, you can easily access others via stairs or elevator.
For added convenience, a luggage storage room is available for use both before check-in and after check-out.

We booked a private room for 4, but Reinaldo said to Dianne that there isn’t a four bedder, so he said he’ll put us in a 6 bedder privately. When we checked in, we were told that Reinaldo was not around, and the room which was supposedly just for us had 2 other occupants. We explained what was discussed with Reinaldo, but the lady at the reception said Reinaldo cannot be reached, and will tell him to give Dianne a call. Reinaldo never called. The hygiene of the hostel was not up to standard. The room (303) that we were allocated stunk! It smelt day and night & has not been ventilated. We avoided being in the room too long because it smelt. The doonas in our room were not replaced with fresh one, but was passed on from one occupant to another. They just removed the bed sheets, replaced with fresh ones, then recycled the same doona that’s been sat on, stepped on, probably dribbled on by a filthy bedder who hasn’t showered. The doonas also stunk! The beds were covered with normal sheet, not fitted sheet, so you end up laying half on bed, and half on the sheet throughout the night. The showers smelt pee. There is nowhere to hang a towel in the shower. They were NOT disinfected daily by the hostel. The toilets also were not disinfected, so do the wash basin & counter top. There is no paper towel in the toilet so can’t wipe down or sit on toiletries when grooming. The powder area in the toilet was dirty, was never wiped down daily. Kitchen tables & stools were too tall.
