In the historic center discover one of Fano’s most famous constructions, the Arco d'Augusto (Arch of Augustus), which dates back to Roman times. It’s located at the entrance to the city. This fantastic triumphal arch has three vaults and was once the main entry of a Roman colonia, a military camp that Romans established in a conquered territory. The gate was built by order of the Emperor Augustus, the military leader who became the first emperor of the Roman Empire, and commemorates the victory of the powerful Roman Army during the Battle of Metauro.
