"We recently spent a night in a deluxe room to break up our return journey home from the Hebrides. We love older, quirky hotels and this one is a real gem. Firstly the grounds are stunning and our early morning walk beside the river was a wonderful way to start the day.
The hotel itself has lots of character, but don't come here expecting polished perfection. Some areas of the hotel look a little tired and could do with refurbishing, but all the bits that mattered were fabulous and everywhere was clean.
Our deluxe room was large, comfortable, clean and had everything we needed for our stay. The dining at the hotel was far better than we'd expected with a wonderful menu and some excellent seafood dishes and decent wine.
Service was swift, friendly and unpretentious.
Partway through our stay we found out more about the history of the building and it was eye-opening to say the least. I had an extremely strange lucid dream combined with sleep paralysis...or at least that's what I think could explain the laughter of a little girl right beside my bed at 3am and me trying to wake my husband but being unable to move...!
Anyway, regardless, we had a fabulous stay, it was good value for money and we'd not hesitate to stay there again."
