Visit Dubai’s first purpose-built waterfront development to see a man-made canal city with luxury properties, parks, promenades and plenty of shopping opportunities.

Dubai Marina lays claim to being one of the world’s biggest man-made canal cities. Come to view the high-rise luxury residential and vacation properties that stretch for nearly 2 miles (3 kilometers) along the Persian Gulf shoreline.

A great way to get a feel for the area is to take a boat tour on a traditional Arabian dhow. There is plenty to see, and day and night cruises are available. The entire waterfront district and man-made marina was created by excavating the desert and allowing the waters of the gulf to flow into the site.

If you prefer to stay on dry land, there are many landscaped walkways and parks to enjoy. Take a long, leisurely stroll along the Marina Walk, a 4.5-mile (7-kilometer) path by the water. This path wraps around the entire marina. Break up your ramble with refreshments at one of the bars, and look at the luxury yachts and speedboats moored alongside. Make the most of the waterside location by soaking up the sun or swimming at Jumeirah Beach.

Many visitors come to the marina to shop. Head to the Dubai Marina Mall, a vast complex with more than 120 stores. Step outside the mall and browse the kiosks of the Marina Market. It's situated on the promenade to the rear of the mall and operates every Wednesday to Saturday between October and April. The promenade is lined with numerous restaurants with outdoor seating. Stay here for lunch or come back for dinner.

If you’d like even more food variety, visit the mall’s seven-story Gourmet Tower. Each level offers a different dining concept as well as 360-degree views of the skyline and Persian Gulf.

The marina is situated in the western part of Dubai, approximately 13 miles (20 kilometers) from downtown. It is easily accessible by car along the Sheikh Zayed Road and is connected to the city via Dubai Metro’s red line.
