The whole hotel, including our room, was very clean. The staff were all incredible and friendly. Our only complaint is that the bar/restaurant was only open until 1pm and it doesn’t show that online.

Puerto Libre is in a great location, quite clean, and very reasonably priced. Overall, the property itself was a pleasant place to stay. Unfortunately, I had a concerning experience related to luggage storage and staff conduct. After checking out, I needed to store my suitcase, which contained my passport and laptop. The hotel’s luggage storage area was unlocked and easily accessible from the public street, so I did not feel comfortable leaving these items there. Instead, I arranged to store my suitcase in a friend’s locked guest room; she was staying at the hotel for an additional night. Later in the day, when I attempted to briefly go upstairs to retrieve my own suitcase, front desk staff raised their voice at me and refused access. No escort or staff assistance was offered. As a result, I was denied access to my passport in a foreign country, despite having chosen a secure and reasonable storage option. What made this especially confusing was that I was able to enter the hotel snack bar and purchase a drink after checkout without any problem. I understand hotels may have policies around guest access after checkout, but the combination of unsecured luggage storage, refusal to offer a reasonable alternative, and aggressive staff behavior was stressful and disappointing. Travelers who need to store luggage or are carrying important documents should be aware.

The view from the balcony 209 was directly over the concrete roof above the breakfast restaurant. I did go to the front desk immediately to voice my displeasure but was told there was nothing else available until Saturday. Having to move 3 days later was inconvenient on a 7 day trip so I declined the offer. Nothing else was offered to make me feel heard. I would make sure not to get 208 or 209, which both have an awful view. Otherwise, the hotel was clean. The placement of the sun loungers in the middle of the dining area is awkward. Not much can be done easily as the stairs to the pool are on the wrong side, poor design.

Lovely deluxe room with nice ocean view. Friendly and attentive front desk and housekeeping staff. The only negative for us was the noisy late evenings with people and cars rolling by with thumping music along the Malecon until late into the night which is by no means the fault of this lovely property.
