  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. Front desk service was great. Breakfast isn’t really breakfast but it’s a nice morning snack. Rooms were dirty, trash under beds. Room was small. Hot water sucked. Bed was harder than a bag of rocks.

The outside was very appealing. The inside was not so great. I stayed in the double bed with pull out couch room. Everything was super outdated. We had a kitchenette with no utensils, no plates, paper towels etc. we booked the room for 5 people and we had 3 towels in the room. When we called for more, they told us we would have to come get them. The pull out bed did not have sheets, blankets or pillows. The regular beds were ridiculously hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was not clean. There was someone in the room above us and i don’t know what they were doing but we could hear them walking and thudding all night even they have a “quiet time” from 10pm to 8am. I am not impressed and will not stay here again.
