Top Coastriders Kitesurfing Hotel Reviews
Macdonald Plas Talgarth Holiday Resort
8/10 Good
"Stunning surrounding scenery. Clean room with bare necessities supplied. Free Wi-Fi. Studio apartment not as new & fresh as advertised. Be aware of electricity charge at end of stay, bins"
Gwesty Minffordd Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Hotel owner very friendly and chatty. Breakfast was excellent, fresh fruits and followed by a well cooked hot breakfast. Will stay again when in the area, which is stunning."
Glan Yr Afon Riverside
10/10 Excellent
"Lovely pub with rooms in a beautiful village setting. The rooms are fairly small but clean, cozy and looks recently renovated. Well appointed with all the things you need. Breakfast was cooked fresh to order, with tea, coffee, juices and cereal also available. All staff were very friendly and helpful. This is apparently a community owned pub/B&B owned by the village, so deserves to be well supported. Top marks from me, and thoroughly recommended!"
Wynnstay Hotel

"friendly staff, very good food, comfortable bed. Only negative was a noisy road if you kept the window open during the night"
Penhelig Arms

"Our first Impression of our arrival in Aberdovey wasn't good. It is worth stating that only the suites at the hotel have reserved parking, other rooms have to use the nearby council car park, which is convenient, but costs an eye watering £15,40 a day. Not the hotel's fault of course, but I think guests should be made aware. The car park does not accept cards either, only cash and the App. We were allocated a room on the top floor, the stairs are rather small, and difficult to manouver with luggage, and badly scuffed in places. Our room was very spacious, with a comfortable bed with quality bedding. The bathroom too was spacious with good quality towels. There was a kettle plus tea & coffee, together with a small sofa and coffee table. It was very hot during our stay there, and there is no air conditioning of course, nor fans provided, so only the small windows to provide any airflow. However, the kitchen extractor fan(s) were located outside the bedroom window, and were going until almost midnight every day, from around 7am. This together with the heat meant poor quality sleeping every night. The cooked breakfasts were very good, but not the "Continental" option, only apples, oranges, cereals and a few croisants were available most days plus toast, and yoghurts if they had any. No rolls, meats, vegetables or cheeses. Water for hot drinks is from an Urn, no coffee machine. The "Continental" items ran out frequently every day. Note: the Kitchen Hygene Rating is only 3."

"Beautiful house and stunning views and location. Would highly recommend to able bodied people. Unfortunately the description Hotels.com. used was inaccurate and we would not have booked the property. There is NO - on site parking as stated. On arrival the property is located at the end of a terrace of 5 houses down an uneven path and through 2 gates. The nearest the car can park to off load was at the end of the terrace so all luggage had to be carried 90+ steps to the property. The car then had to be moved and parked up on the main road if there was a space left. Sykes Cottages site does give you all this information but Hotels.com failed to use this on their site. But the property is stunning and was lovely to stay at. Just the issue with getting to and from the property each time was the disappointment."

"This hotel/guest house is mainly a wedding venue but can be booked for individual stays. I was on a business trip and just needed a bed before an early start. Breakfast is provided in a little hamper and had plenty of good quality fruit, bread, danish etc which suited me better than a cooked breakfast at eg 7am because I was up and out by 6am. There was no human to check in but codes were provided for the main door and a key box for the room. Everything was clean and tasteful and it worked surprisingly well. Nice quiet, rural location."

"Great location. Clean room. Very friendly staff and delicious breakfast."
Chalet Forte
10/10 Excellent
"We were in town for the local Machynlleth Comedy Festival over the May bank holiday weekend, and this was a wonderful base for that, being around 20 minutes away - and then a short drive to Aberdyfi too, with its lovely beach. The chalet park is very quiet; we didn't hear anyone else throughout our entire stay! Communication from the host was great, and she was very friendly. The key is stored in a lock box at the property, so you can check in at your own convenience with space to park directly outside the front door. The chalet had everything you needed - 2 bedrooms with comfy beds, ample storage for clothes, a good shower (with toiletries supplied) and a well-stocked kitchen. We even got some free cakes on arrival, thanks! There were also some board games and DVDs supplied if you get bored. We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again next time we're in the area."

Centre for Alternative Technology
8.6/10 (8 reviews)
Affording magnificent views of the Snowdonia National Park, the Centre for Alternative Technology (CAT) has for nearly half a century now occupied a seven-acre site in a former slate quarry close to Machynlleth. Easily reached by car or bus, and naturally offering free charging for electric vehicles, a visit here may be among the most rewarding and inspiring you could hope to take in Wales. Note also that the name is a little misleading now, as the centre has switched from focusing purely on alternative technologies to all forms of sustainable living.
