Francis, Alaska is a very special place. When our guests plan their trip, they are hoping to come and see the amazing scenery, the geography, and the animals. Many guests also want to get a glimpse into what life is really like living in remote Alaska (Outside of the Discovery Channell drama). Here at the Lodge, Cristina and I live in the Lodge year-round. We experience -60F tempratures each winter along with 8 feet of snow on the ground. We encounter Bears, Wolves, Lynx and many other animals on a daily basis and we have stories about those experiences which we love to share. We enjoy sitting around the breakfast table in the morning, drinking gourmet coffee and sharing our experiences about living in Alaska.Thank you for choosing to stay with us while exploring remote Alaska!.

We really enjoyed having your family visit us. I have changed the controls of the shower in the cabin, the temperature controls are no longer touchy. We are the only Lodge with cabins which reside in the center of the national park. Wildlife is a wonderful part of the experience, but it must be observed carefully. We really enjoyed your company while you were here! Cristina and I have worked to build a comfortable luxury cabin for our guests but priced at a discount rate. We want our guests to have the same comforts as home while still being able to experience the wild outdoors of our nation's largest National park. We are proud to be able to say that we are the ONLY Lodge actually inside of the Wrangell St. Elias National park. We are also proud to be the only cabins in the area with a private bathroom and shower in each cabin. One of the highlights of our day is cooking breakfast each morning in the cookhouse and being able to visit with our guests. We enjoyed having your conversation over coffee and pancakes! Frozen waffles are strictly forbidden on Lodge grounds!😊 As the only Lodge inside the park, and as the only cabins with their own bathrooms and shower in and around Mccarthy, we love to hear how the extra amenities have made an impact on our guests vacation. We are over 30 miles from the nearest powerline so we generate all of our own electricity on site, and the water from your shower was fresh from our own artesian well fed by the glacier! We are thrilled that your Alaskan adventure was a success! When we first conceived the idea of opening a Lodge with cabins, our vision was to provide a place inside of the National Park with luxury amenities where people could come and comfortably experience the REAL backcountry "bush" of Alaska. We wanted to give people the opportunity to catch a glimpse of real life in Alaska. As you know, my wife Cristina and I live at the Lodge year round, so when you visit, you truly are seeing how Alaskans live. We have often entertained the Discovery channel filming crews as they film episodes of "Life Below Zero", "Edge Of Alaska", and "Alaskan Bush People". You really wouldn't be able to experience the same rustic adventure here in Alaska without flying into the backcountry in a bush plane! Fortunately, we have McCarthy road (Which has been repaired and upgraded) to transport visitors into the "bush". Driving on McCarthy road to our Lodge is like being in a time machine and being transported back to the time when hunting and trapping in Alaska was required for survival. When you enter one of our cabins, you are transported into an 1950's style hunting cabin but with modern amenities such as electricity, a bathroom, a hot shower, 4G LTE and free WiFi! All of the negative posts which you may see online about McCarthy road are OLD! The drive on McCarthy road is nice! McCarthy road is very easy driving now. We have huge motorhomes and people driving little compact cars on McCarthy road everyday with no problem at all. I wish I were able to go and edit all of those exaggerated posts from years ago. McCarthy road is a very easy drive now. I hate seeing people miss out on seeing Wrangell St. Elias National Park because they think the road is still bad! In my opinion, driving McCarthy road through the park, and being here at the Lodge is the best method of seeing Alaskan wildlife. We often have bears meander through the 10 acres of property of the Lodge. Moose, lynx and several other animals are common visitors. Thank you so much for being our guests. Cristina and I enjoyed your company! The bear on the front deck of the house was sure interesting! We love our wildlife, being the only Lodge actually inside of the park makes seeing wildlife much easier... Sometimes easier than we want! I don't think a day goes by where I don't see wildlife, however a bear on the front deck is a bit more than we prefer. I was pleased that you noticed the environmental aspect of the Lodge. We produce most of our power from solar energy. The water for the bathrooms comes from a well which delivers fresh glacier spring water. When was the last time you were able to shower in warm glacier spring water? We work hard to have a light environmental impact on our beautiful park. We love the animals, the fish in the river and the amazing forest around us. We do all that we can to coexist in this beautiful and wild place. Please come back and stay with us the next time you visit Alaska.
