If you're poorly prepared, airports and flying can be tough. But don't hit the panic button just yet. Follow these tips and tricks for a stress-free start to your getaway in Yonaguni. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you carry the right stuff. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as a toothbrush and some deodorant, a fresh change of clothes and a good novel. Secondly, leave space in your hand luggage for your laptop, a charger, any daily medications and maybe a proper neck pillow too. What to wear on a flight:

• Your goal here is to feel as comfortable as you can. Go for shoes that are easy to pull on and off, dress in loose, natural fibers and don't forget to bring a jacket in case you get chilly in the cabin.
• You've probably heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To lessen your risk on board, drink plenty of water, consider wearing compression socks or tights and do gentle foot and leg exercises in your seat.

• Keep your ID and boarding pass handy. They'll be the first things you'll be asked to show at airport security.
• Time to strip down. Well kind of. Your belt, jacket, keys and other small items, like your headphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process faster by removing them as your turn draws near.
• Your electronic devices like laptops and phones will also have to go on a tray to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Want to bring along your favorite cologne or perfume? Not a problem. As long as it's in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and it's stored in a clear zip-lock bag, you're permitted to bring it with you in your carry-on bag.
• Choosing your footwear wisely can save you a few precious minutes. Boots and heavy shoes are often required to be removed and X-rayed separately. Lightweight sneakers usually aren't.
• Avoid taking prohibited items in your carry-on bag. If you have any sharp objects like a pocket knife or tools, pack them safely away in your checked baggage. They won't be allowed on board and will be confiscated.
