• A plane trip can be easy if you pack the right stuff. First things first, you'll need basic toiletries, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good read. Next, leave space in your bag for your laptop, a charger, any daily medications and maybe a neck pillow as well. • Your ID and travel documents will need to be presented to airport security. Have them easily accessible so you don't hold up the queue.
• Your coat, belt, keys and other contents of your pockets, like coins, will need to go through the X-ray machine. Make the whole process easier by removing them as it gets closer to your turn.
• Your electronic devices like phones and laptops will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online in no time.
• Any liquids or gels, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to bring on board need to be in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• The right choice of footwear can save you a few precious minutes. Boots are often required to be removed and separately scanned. Slip-on sneakers are usually not.
• Sharp or pointed items are not allowed on board. They'll be confiscated at security, so pack them in your checked bags.
