Wherever you're coming from, flying can be a pleasurable experience if you've planned ahead. We've put together a list of essential travel tips that will get your Shumen escape started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• A plane ride can be easy if you take the right things. Firstly, you'll want some toiletry items, such as deodorant, toothpaste and a toothbrush, a fresh change of clothes and a good novel. What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your highest priority when choosing what to wear on your flight. Loose clothing is a wise option, as are flat, slightly roomy shoes.
• Deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clot condition caused by extended periods of inactivity, can be a risk on long-haul flights. Wander around the cabin and stretch your legs or do some simple exercises in your seat to improve your circulation.

It's all about being organized. We've compiled some useful tips for a fuss-free trip through security. Look out Shumen, here you come:

• First things first. Your boarding pass and travel ID will need to be inspected by airport security. Have them close by so you don't hold up the line.
• The X-ray machine is up next. Remove anything metal on you that is likely to set off the alarm. This includes items like headphones or earphones, as well as heavy coats or jackets. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
• Your electronic gadgets like phones and laptops will also have to go on a tray for inspection. Don't worry though, you'll be back online soon enough.
• Any gels or liquids, such as hair oil or hand cream, that you want to bring on board must be no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), zip-lock bag.

• Sharp or pointed objects (like knives and scissors) are not allowed on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them safely away in your checked baggage.
