No matter where you're coming from, flying can be an enjoyable experience if you prepare well enough. We've put together a list of essential travel tips that will help get your Pinghu escape started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Flying can be a comfortable experience if you carry the right stuff. First of all you'll need toiletry items, such as deodorant and a toothbrush, a spare change of clothes and a few magazines. Secondly, leave space in your hand luggage for your phone and charger, medications and maybe a proper neck pillow too. Last, but definitely not least, remember to take your passport, travel papers and some cash.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Put all your full-sized bottles of shampoo and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) won't be allowed on. Sharp objects, like your beloved Swiss Army knife, and products which are flammable or explosive, such as aerosol cans, flares and strong acids, are also restricted.

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your number one priority when choosing what to wear on board. Loose, breathable clothing is a sensible option, as are roomy, closed-toe shoes.
• Most travelers have heard about deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by long periods of inactivity. To reduce your risk on board, stay hydrated, consider wearing compression socks or tights and move your legs and feet often.

• Security personnel first need to establish that you have a valid ID and boarding pass before you can proceed any further. Keep them close by.
• After that, both you and your hand luggage will be X-rayed. To make the process quick and painless, take off anything that might trigger the alarms. Personal belongings such as your coat, belt and headphones will be required to go through the machine.
• Your electronic gadgets like laptops and phones will also have to go through the machine to be scanned. Don't worry though, you'll be back online before you know it.
• Any liquids or gels, such as perfume or toothpaste, that you want to take on board need to be in containers no greater than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). Also, they all must fit inside a quart-size (one liter), clear zip-close bag.
• Lightweight sneakers are a good footwear choice as you're less likely to be required to remove them when passing through security. Big boots and heavier-style shoes are usually subjected to additional screening.
• Sharp items can't be taken on board. They'll be seized at security, so pack them safely away in your checked luggage.
