No matter where you're coming from, flying can be a pleasant experience if you prepare well enough. We've made a list of handy tips and tricks that will get your Naughton vacation started on the right note. What to pack in your hand luggage:
- The secret to having an awesome flight experience is to pack in advance. Start with the essentials: passport, official ID, cash and medications. Next, bring items that'll help keep you occupied, like some electronic gadgets or a juicy novel. You'll also want to pack your chargers, a comfy neck pillow and a pair of headphones. And of course, be sure to pop in toiletries like a toothbrush, facial wipes and a spare set of clothes.
Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:
- Squeeze all your full-sized bottles of hair gel and hairspray in your checked baggage. Any liquids in your carry-on suitcase larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) will be confiscated. Sharp objects, like your Swiss Army knife, and dangerous goods which are explosive or flammable, such as aerosols and gasoline, are also not allowed.
What to wear on a flight:
- The narrow aisles of an airplane are no fashion runway. Layer up with comfortable clothing and remember to bring a cardigan as it can get chilly inside the cabin. Flat, enclosed shoes are also recommended.
- A serious condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can pose a risk on long-distance flights. It's the result of blood clotting due to poor circulation. Walking around the cabin and doing regular foot and leg exercises in your seat is a great way to prevent this from occurring. Wearing a good pair of compression socks also helps reduce the risk.
