What to wear on a flight:

• Your goal here is to be as comfortable as you can. Opt for easy-to-remove footwear, dress in loose, natural fibers and remember to take a pullover in case it gets cold in the cabin.
• You're probably aware of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), a blood clotting condition caused by prolonged periods of sitting. To lessen your risk on board, drink lots of water, consider wearing compression socks and keep your legs and feet moving.

• Be sure to have your boarding pass and passport at hand. They'll be the first things you'll be asked for by airport security.
• Your belt, coat, keys and other small items, like your earphones, will be required to go through the X-ray machine. Make your life easier by removing them as your turn draws near.
• All your electronic gadgets, including your tablet and phone, must also be scanned separately.
• Remove all liquids and gels from your hand luggage. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each item should be no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) and everything must fit inside a single quart-size (one liter), clear zip-lock bag.
• There's a good chance you'll be required to remove your shoes to be X-rayed, so wearing lightweight sneakers is always a smart idea.
• Airlines will not allow any sharp items or pocket knives in the cabin. If you must bring these kinds of items, pack them safely in your checked baggage.
