Scandia is quiet, you can walk wherever you wish, to the lagoon, beach, the village. The people who run Scandia are awesome! My mother has been in the hospital and I drive everyday to La Jolla to visit her. This place has been a blessing. When I return every day I can grab a delicious sandwich at the local health food store up the street, take a walk to the parks. There is historic Victorian McGee park across the road or another one behind the motel on the next street. Being an only-child helping my mother, Scandia has been a sanctuary for me after a day of responsibility. Walk the Buena Vista lagoon trail up the street (California’s first ecological preserve) or there are fun vintage and thrift stores about 5 blocks North alongside boutique coffee roasters. I am vegetarian, found a restaurant, The Plot, up the street on Pacific Coast Hwy, makes everything from scratch and grows their own vegetables/herbs on their onsite garden. If you want ice cream, there is Handel’s (an institution here) or authentic Italian gelato family-run in the village. Tons of Mexican food (Fidel’s is great 40 years running!). At Scandia you are surrounded by beach, palms and next to the historic Army/Navy Academy (prep school) where lovely bell tower chimes sing at night. The trees on the premises next door, at least 75 years old, eucalyptus/pine, stunning. Love Scandia. Generous refrigerator/microwave, housekeeping ladies are so kind! Wonderful! Salt air + wood scent nightly! Ah!!

Good location, walking distance to downtown Carlsbad. The room was clean. The parking lot is small, but I have never had any issues with finding a spot. Friendly staff.

No pillows or towels...we had to ask. We went to Marshall's to buy blankets and pillows. Dirty room. Actually filthy. Needs deep cleaning. Remote was gross. $50/night would be too much. We paid near $200.

What and awesome place to stay. I would recommend any traveler to stay here. The front desk lady was extremely nice, very kind. I had a great conversation with her. The room was duper nice and very clean. Walking distance to the beach.

It was disgustingly dirty! The shower curtain had a big brown stain, the floor was dirty, the toilet paper holder was completely rusted, no fitted sheet, a flat sheet on the bottom of a stained mattress pad. It was gross and icky. The site says you can check in until 12 midnight but I received a call from the property the day of my arrival and they insisted I check in earlier. If I had time to figure out how to get my money back - I would. It was GROSS!!!

Staff was nice, property was near beach. Shower was nice and hot. The beds were noisy as the box springs were audible from outside. The blanket had what may have been cigarette burns. All towels and bed sheets looked like it had been used to detail a Mac truck engine. We can hear the adjacent room guest breathing.

The people who run the Scandia are very nice. It is quiet and comfortable and the housekeeping ladies are wonderful. It is in a unique location that feels special. You hear the chimes of the Army/Navy Academy and an occasional freight train. If you are respectful of your neighbors and the property you will have a peaceful stay at Scandia. You can walk to the pretty parks nearby or to the Farmer’s Market on Wednesday in the Downtown. For me, I love the serenity here and it is fun to meet and talk to other nice people staying here. The shower is spacious and nice and I love the decent-sized refrigerator. The room has everything you need and I have slept very well here. The parking is also very nice close to your room. I have been very happy here. My mother is getting a lung transplant which is stressful but the people here and sense of community this motel projects has made it a lot lighter for me. At the end of the day driving to and from Scripps La Jolla I look forward to coming back to Scandia to relax, open the windows and enjoy fresh ocean air and a plush comfortable room. This has been one of the most memorable places I’ve ever stayed simply because of the staff and that it is not your typical motel. It has charm.
