"We recently stayed at the Norbreck Hotel in Blackpool and came away feeling pretty disappointed.
To be fair, there are a couple of positives. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the hotel has plenty of parking. The building itself is absolutely huge and has so much potential.
Unfortunately, that's where the positives end.
The exterior is tired and run-down, and while it's an impressive-looking building from a distance, it certainly doesn't give off a premium hotel feel. The inside is even more disappointing. For a hotel charging the prices it does, the standard of cleanliness and maintenance was nowhere near acceptable.
Our room had mould and dirt around the windows, a broken drawer, a TV that didn't work, and the condiment tray had black mould inside it. The floorboards squeaked constantly, and the beds were so uncomfortable you could feel the springs through the mattress.
My kids were excited about using the swimming pool, but after seeing the condition of the room, I wasn't comfortable letting them go. If the rooms are being maintained to that standard, it doesn't exactly inspire confidence in the cleanliness elsewhere.
The whole place feels like it's been untouched for decades. It's outdated, worn out, and desperately in need of investment. That's a real shame because the hotel itself is enormous and could be something special with the right care and attention.
We weren't expecting luxury, but we did expect a clean, well-maintained room. "
"It’s like stepping back in time when you visit Blackpool in many ways and although the Doric also feels a little bit like this it is also a comfortable, very clean hotel with very friendly helpful staff. We enjoyed the outdoor pool and bar as the weather was glorious! The only fault I can give, is our room (49) was far too hot as there’s no AC or fans but other than that we had a great stay."
"I’m really disappointed with our stay at this hotel and feel it’s important to warn others.
We arrived late in the evening and only managed to sleep a few hours before discovering multiple bed bugs in the room the next morning. Given we arrived so late, we didn’t notice them straight away, but finding several the next day was extremely upsetting and raised serious concerns about the cleanliness of the room.
The bathroom was also in a very poor condition. There were visible skid marks in the toilet, the shower curtain was mouldy, and the sink was completely blocked so it didn’t drain properly. The room also had a strong, unpleasant smell which made it very uncomfortable to stay in.
We all ended up with bites, which made the situation even more worrying. My daughter had her expensive cheer uniform with her, and after discovering everything we had to get it professionally cleaned straight away just to be sure we didn’t risk bringing anything home. Since returning, the whole family has been paranoid and anxious about whether anything may have come back with us."
"Dirty carpets, sweets on floor. Bad smell in one room. Rooms were not cleaned during our stay. we had to ask for toilet rolls, we had to empty our own bins.
Breakfast and evening meals were OK."
"The staff were fantastic. it’s a very old building with lots of charm. Unfortunately the room we had was in need of some renovation, very tired, ripped carpet, and the window was filthy. Our room was exceptionally warm although there was a fan provided. Lick of paint, new carpet and a better clean would be 5 stars!"
