The location is what matters on this one! Perfectly located right on the canal in an original building!! Walking distance to just about everything. Breakfast is basic, so if it’s included, great but don’t pay extra for this.
Lovely position by the canal in a great area of Amsterdam.
Unfortunately scaffolding everywhere when we were there limiting our view.
Breakfast ok but coffee machine kept breaking and very limited staff input to help with anything, the occasional staff member was not friendly or welcoming at all.
Rooms basic but nice enough. Obviously stairs very steep as expected and we had little luggage, but very limited staffing so no help carrying bags up for more frail visitors with big bags.
Good to have free hot drinks available but frustrating no tap water jugs or availability in reception area. All cold drinks charged when bottles/jug of tap water could be in the fridge to provide a free cold option.
Reception staff helpful enough when asked but not overly forthcoming.
Best thing about it was the location, near to lots of lovely areas and things to do.
This place is a great value for being strategically located in one of the best parts of Amsterdam. Feels like a family run B&B almost. Rooms are small and bare bones. Don’t expect too much. Breakfasts are typical European, nothing fancy but good! The only gripe I have is the room smelled like cleaner. In this day and age you don’t need to use abrasively smelling cleaners anymore.
Liked everything..lovely large room overlooking canal..very helpful and friendly staff...lovely old decor...excellent breakfast.....
except for the many steps to climb to room on 2nd floor ..40...steps up..as no elevators
Great location in canal district. In an old ( but renovated ) canal row house. Very steep stairs so not good for people with mobility issues. Also, no A/C and we were there in really hot weather and there were no room fans available. Otherwise a great place. Also very generous breakfasts
Reaaly need to inform people that there is no elevator and the stairs are horrible. Need someone to help carry bags up.
Breakfast was adequite.
Staff was very helpfull
Room was quaint and functionalble but a little on the smaller side.
Toiletries were almost non existant
Location was as good as you could get. Close walking distance to everything we did.
Would stay there again
The location was excellent and made a fantastic home base for exploring Amsterdam. It was central enough to get around easily, while still being removed from some of the louder, crazier parts of the city.
We especially loved the neighborhood feel. One of our favorite experiences of the entire trip was spending an evening at a nearby pub chatting with a group of locals. It gave us a glimpse of Amsterdam beyond the usual tourist experience.
The stairs to the room were very steep and a little intimidating with a heavy backpack, but still manageable and probably something you should expect in Amsterdam.
The staff was pleasant and efficient, though not especially warm or outgoing.
Breakfast was fantastic, with plenty of choices. The dining room was right on the corner with large windows, which made it a great spot to eat breakfast and watch the city come to life.
Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would happily stay here again.
It is very close to Amsterdam Centraal, so you are close to where all the action is. This was actually a lovely Dutch experience. It can be quite intimidating to go up the steep stairs, but it wasn't so bad. The continental breakfast provided a light start to your day. All of the reception staff were very nice. The majority of personal shops close around 6, but the location is very close to a lot of restaurants and stores that open later. I would definitely recommend it if you are a solo traveller or if it is your first time in the Netherlands.
Very comfortable stay for a city center. Beautifully decorated with antique collectables. The canal view room was exceptional for its entertainment value. I could sit in a chair in the window for hours. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful and set us up for our day. We especially appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities in the lobby. Great location for all tourist activities, walkable to most everything. One warning for those with mobility issues. The stairs of the old canal building are insanely steep and narrow, like nothing you have ever experienced, think carpeted ladder! Not unusual for many stairs in Amsterdam. Please choose a modern hotel if you can’t climb a ladder.
Staff was warm and welcoming. The breakfast room was a lovely room to start the day in- breakfast choices were great. The stairway was daunting but this is Amsterdam. Our stay was a pleasure

3rd stay; all good except the stairs, but then that's auld Amsterdam
Lovely old building in a perfect location for sightseeing and shopping. Very steep steps unsuitable for infirm trying to take their bags upstairs to rooms on any of the four floors. Otherwise perfect for the price.

I really struggled on how I wanted to rate this hotel, but overall I had a poor time and wouldn’t book there again. My main problems were the lack of air conditioning because I came during a heat wave and the really rude staff on my arrival day. The older woman who worked there was rude, acted like I was an inconvenience for simple things. Did not even want me to allow my friends to help me carry my heavy luggage up the 4 flights of winding narrow stairs (no elevator) and told me I could not have any guests in my room during the mid day. My friends from Leiden just wanted to change from walking around clothes to dresses and heels for dinner. Her attitude made us feel like school children and her presence made me feel like I was unwelcome in the space and between that and the old amenities I began to second guess if I had accidentally booked a hostel. However, once she left my stay was much nicer with the male employee who was friendly and didn’t make me feel unwelcome. Overall the building location is the best part of booking here, but for me not worth it to do again.

Nice Hotel but not very comfortable
The location is great, it is a very beautiful and old hotel. But there is not air conditioning and in summer it was so hot that it made the stay unbearable. Besides, we stayed in the 3rd floor with no lyft and the stairs so tiny that we really struggled to carry our suitcases.
Our stay at the Amsterdam Wiechman was wonderful. This old converted canal house felt very authentic, down to the steep narrow stairway (adds to the charm). Our room had a bay window overlooking the canal that was so enjoyable to sit at. The bed was great. The bathroom was small and a bit awkward but not unexpected for a European bathroom. The location was perfect with a Euro Q R park nearby. It was easy walking distance from anything and everything you'd want to see while in Amsterdam. My absolute favorite part of this hotel is the breakfast. The selection was amazing - we absolutely loved sitting by the windows and watching "the world go by" as we ate. Definitely recommend staying here!

While the hotel itself is nice, the rooms were kind of lacking and decor and charm like the rest of it. Some things in the bathroom could have been upgraded and I was standing in 3 inches of water by the time I was done with my shower. I let them know about it, and they were supposed to go fix it, but they never did. The breakfast was decent. They did help us out by letting us leave our bags a few times before and after checking in and out.
