Overwhelming. Go with someone who's from Ethiopia. The Merkato is massive and difficult to navigate without someone who understands it.

It's huge. Find someone who can show you what you want, otherwise you will be wading through streets and alleys full of cheap western-style clothing, shoes and textiles. Some good finds to be had though.
