St. George lies within the canyons of the Virgin River Gorge, where ribbons of greenery are contrasted against the deep red of Utah’s mountainous desert. The city is located within easy reach of the breathtaking Zion National ParkOpens in a new window, the Mojave Desert and the Pine Valley, but isn’t just a haven for mesmerizing flora and fauna. St. George is also home to a thriving arts community, fantastic culinary scene and a historic downtown area.

Historically nicknamed Utah’s Dixie, St. George was established in the 1860s when the Mormon Church invited farmers and families from the South to settle around a cotton mission. Explore St. George’s downtown to find traces of the city’s pioneer past amid stately civic buildings and historic landmarks. Head to St. George’s historic courthouse and you will find a visitor information center within the neoclassical building. Find out what’s happening at venues such as the Toucahn Center for the Arts or the city’s local galleries. Check out some of the restaurants around Ancestor Square and sample some of the city’s fine produce or locally brewed ales.

Make the most of the breathtaking landscapes surrounding St. George by going on a trip to Zion National Park. This stunning wilderness reserve features deep valleys that thrive with lush greenery and contrast with the colossal red cliffs of the canyon. Go on a scenic drive through the national park or check out forest trails that follow along the Virgin River. The city of Springdale is also situated within the canyon, where you can visit intriguing artists’ studios and fine-dining restaurants.
