What you can expect

Your tour begins in the morning at the heart of Tirana, in the historic center, where the vibrant Skanderbeg Square dominates the scene. Named after Albania’s national hero, honored for uniting the country and preventing multiple Ottoman invasions, the square holds deep symbolic value. Its surface is paved with stones brought from every region inhabited by Albanians, both inside and outside today’s borders, making it a gathering place that represents the entirety of Albanian identity.

From here, the tour continues with a visit to the National Historical Museum, the largest museum in the country. Inside, you’ll explore centuries of Albanian history, from ancient Illyrian culture to modern times, gaining a deeper understanding of the struggles and achievements that have shaped the nation.

Next, you’ll make your way to the Ethem Beu Mosque, a beautifully preserved 18th–19th century monument considered one of Tirana’s architectural gems. Built between 1793 and 1830, the mosque is renowned for its delicate interior frescoes depicting nature and landscapes, rare elements in Islamic art. Just beside it stands the iconic Clock Tower (Kulla e Sahatit), completed in 1811, offering a picturesque view of one of the city’s most important historic ensembles.

The walk continues toward the castle walls, remnants of the old fortress that once protected the city. Today, this area has been revitalized with charming cafés and artisan shops, blending ancient history with modern urban life. Here you’ll pause for a relaxing coffee break, a perfect moment to soak in the atmosphere of the capital.

For those interested, the tour can also include an optional visit to Bunk’Art, an underground Cold War bunker transformed into a museum. It offers a fascinating and immersive look at Albania’s communist past, making it a meaningful addition to the experience.

To conclude, you’ll stroll along Bulevardi Dëshmorët e Kombit, one of Tirana’s most important boulevards. Lined with government buildings and historic landmarks, it provides an excellent overview of the city’s political and cultural heart. This exclusive small-group tour offers not just a walk through Tirana, but a journey through the country’s history, culture, and identity.
